Funding Overview
Approximately half of the resources we need to operate Alternative House come from non-government sources
- about one-fourth comes through financial support from individuals, businesses, the faith community, and private foundations, and
- one-fourth comes in the form of donations of food, clothing, paper goods and volunteer hours.
We receive about one-fourth of our funding from the Federal Government through the Department of Health and Human Services under the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act.
The final quarter comes from grants and contracts with Fairfax County.
Expenditure Overview
Over 87 percnet of Alternative House expenditures are for program services. About 7 percent are for development costs. Only 5.6 percent of our expenditures are for management and general expenses.

Alternative House has a four-star rating awarded by Charity Navigator, an independent nonprofit evaluation organization.
